SECRETARY’S REPORT – July 2017

SECRETARY’S REPORT – July 2017

The board met on July 10th, 2017 at 6:30 PM at the home of Willy and Eva Hostettler.

Members present:  Willy, Eva, Gil, Naomi, Doris, Jacquie, Linda

Members absent:  Janet, Howie, Carol

Guests:  Dominique

ADMINISTRATION

Eva called the Administration meeting to order at 6:35 PM.  The Secretary’s Report was distributed to board members.  Upon review Linda made the motion to accept the report with Naomi second, and the board approved.  Willy gave the Treasurer’s Report reporting a current balance of $5,337.63 in the Administration account.

Currently, our club has the following projects:

  1. Flags along the Blvd.

  2. Feed the Homeless

  3. Brandon’s Village

  4. DeSoto House (Valley Village)

  5. Terrific Kids

  6. Ronald McDonald House

  7. KECSA

  8. Kiwanis Celebrates Youth (if we choose to continue)

  9. My Stuff

  10. Nifty Knitters (Blankets for Children)

  11. Key Club & Circle K

Our club needs to increase our members to have the manpower to do these projects or do we need to discontinue some and if so, which ones?  There needs to be a committee for each of our projects and a chairperson to oversee the committee and report to the board.

A few weeks ago, John Murray, a distinguished toastmaster, spoke at one of our meetings.  He was telling us to attract new members we need to make our meetings more interesting to those attending.  One idea that he shared with us was having members share their Kiwanis story (what made you join Kiwanis?).  Linda emailed club members wanting them to write their story and share it at a future club meeting.  Originally, this was suggested to be mandatory, but the board discussed to allow members to voluntarily tell their stories.

There was no further Administration business and Eva adjourned the Administration meeting at 7:25 PM.

FOUNDATION

Eva called the Foundation meeting to order at 7:35 PM.  The Secretary’s Report was distributed to board members.  Upon review, Naomi made the motion to accept the report with Linda second, and the board approved.  Willy gave the Treasurer’s Report stating a current balance of $36,858.43.  Linda made a motion to accept the report with Naomi second, and the board approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

KIWANIS CELEBRATES YOUTH - Willy reported that Kiwanis Celebrates Youth on June 3rd lost $1,178.90.

KECSA - We have received a grant for $10,000.00 from LATLC.  Letters, tickets, and solicitation envelopes are ready.  They will be available to club members at our next meeting.  Currently, five riding programs have pre-registered and we should expect about ten.

RMDH - We served approximately 50-60 guests at the last dinner.  The next dinner will be on August 6th.

OLD BUSINESS:

There was no old business.

NEW BUSINESS:

We received membership applications from Allison Mailes and Donald Middleton.  Jacquie made the motion to accept their memberships with Gil second, and the board approved.  Allison and Don, welcome!

Linda will organize a membership drive in October.

There was no further Foundation business, and Eva adjourned the Foundation meeting at 7:50 PM.
