SECRETARY’S REPORT – September 2017

The board met on September 11th, 2017 at 6:30 PM at the home of Willy and Eva Hostettler.

Members present:  Naomi, Gil, Willy, Eva, Doris, Helen, Janet, Jacquie, Carol

Members absent:  Howie, Linda

Guests:  Dominique

ADMINISTRATION

Eva called the Administration meeting to order at 6:40 PM. 

The Secretary’s Report was distributed to board members.  Upon review, Gil made the motion to accept the report with Janet second and the board approved.

In August, our club had 136 service hours.

We had three members (Jacquie, Willy, and Eva) attend the Division 16 Council Meeting on August 15th.  This was our only interclub for August.

Willy gave the Treasurer’s Report stating a current balance of $6,028.38 in the Administration account.  Helen made the motion to accept the report with Janet second and the board approved.

OLD BUSINESS:

In April, the board approved background checks for all members.  Some members have still not complied.  Helen made a motion that a suspension letter be sent to all members who haven’t completed the background check.  The members will have until September 21st, 2017 to comply.  Janet second the motion.  Following discussion, the board approved.  Eva will send out the letter to members still needing to do the background check.

NEW BUSINESS:

Installation of 2017-2018 club officers and board will be on September 15th, 2017 at 6:30 PM at BJ’s in Woodland Hills.  Cost is free to members and $20.00 for non-members.

There was no further Administration business and Eva adjourned the Administration meeting at 7:10 PM.

 

 

 

FOUNDATION

Eva called the Foundation meeting to order at 7:10 PM. 

The Secretary’s Report was distributed to the board.  Upon review, Gil made the motion to accept the report with Naomi second, and the board approved.

Willy gave the Treasurer’s Report stating a current balance of $36,763.08 in the Foundation account.  Janet made the motion to approve the report with Helen second, and the board approved.

OLD BUSINESS:  None

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

KECSA:  We have had to cancel KECSA this year but we will still have the raffle and silent auction.  The raffle will be at Willy and Eva’s on Sunday, October 22nd, 2017.  Since the event has been cancelled, Willy spoke with Lisa, the executive director of LATLC to see if we can keep the $10,000 donation.  They are allowing us to keep the money as long as we distribute the money as originally intended.

 

RMDH:  The dinner scheduled for September 24th, 2017 has been cancelled.  The next dinner will be on December 17th, 2017.  We will have our holiday party for the children and their families.

NEW BUSINESS:

Willy pointed out that in relation to budget vs. spending that we have a surplus in the Foundation account.  He suggested that we could consider making a donation.  In the past we have donated to the Rising Star Music Fund and the Academy of Music for the Blind.  Do we make an additional donation to them and/or others?  Earlier in the year, two organizations, New Friends (founded by a retired LAPD officer to provide gourmet meals for the homeless in our community) and Action Fund for the Blind’s Twin Vision Library (produce books with both print and braille so that blind parents can read with their sighted children or blind children can read with their sighted parents) spoke to our club.  Helen made a motion that we donate:

    • $500.00 to Rising Star Music Fund
    • $500.00 to Academy of Music for the Blind
    • $500.00 to New Friends
    • $500.00 to Action Fund for the Blind’s Twin Vision Library

 

Jacquie seconded the motion and the board approved.
